In the Sacchettini Lab, I perform pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies to obtain the clearance of COVID-19 small molecules in liver microsomes and then relatively quantify the elimination within the organism. I test new excipients on different molecules to obtain better stability, solubility, and a better elimination to prevent toxicity.
Another main component I focus on is the study of copper chelated molecules within mice that have different diseases caused by copper deficiency due to lack of distribution such as Menkes disease. I study mice with this disease on a long term basis to obtain phenotypical data on mobility, strength, and well being. Short studies on this topic involve pharmacokinetic experiments on different organs of the body to check the progression of copper distribution.
